Accuracy is what matters most

When choosing a scale, especially in industry or the transportation sector, accuracy becomes not an advantage but a necessity. Metrological parameters indicate how accurately a scale can measure mass or weight, and not only operational efficiency but also legal compliance with regulations depend on them.

The most important metrological parameters:

  • Scale class (according to OIML R76): indicates the permissible error. The most commonly used classes are III (standard) and IIII (lower accuracy).

  • e-value (verification interval): the smallest change in mass that the scale can record, for example 5 kg or 20 g.

  • d value (display division): the smallest change in readings that is visible on the display.

  • Maximum weighing range ( Max ): The largest load that the scale can reliably measure.

  • Minimum load ( Min ): The smallest load that the scale must measure accurately.

  • Permissible errors : depends on the scale class and load. For example, for class III scales with a load of 30 t, the permissible error may be ±5 kg.

What are scale classes?

The accuracy of scales is classified into 4 main classes:

Transport and industrial scales are usually class III , and some are class IIII , especially when mobile or axial versions are used.
