What should you know when choosing car scales?

What should you know when choosing car scales?

1. Recessed scales – when aesthetics and space saving are important

Recessed or flush-mounted scales are often chosen where space is limited or maximum passability is required. They are ideal for logistics terminals, industrial plants, where traffic is heavy and where extremely fast weighing is required.

Advantages:

  • Takes up little space

  • Aesthetic, integrated appearance

  • Convenient to use from both sides

  • Quick entry/exit

Disadvantages:

  • Preparatory construction work required (foundations, drainage)

  • Higher installation costs

2. Scales with access ramps – easy installation and mobility

Scales with concrete access ramps are the most popular way to install scales due to their speed, reliability, and ease of maintenance.

Advantages:

  • Quick installation

  • No need for expensive construction work

  • Convenient maintenance/cleaning

Disadvantages:

  • Need more space for ramps

  • Less aesthetic in high traffic environments

3. Mobile scales – when flexibility is needed

Mobile scales can be of two types:

🔹 Scales with steel access ramps

They are installed directly on existing horizontal and hard surfaces, such as asphalt or concrete. Installation is quick and the construction is relatively inexpensive.

Advantages:

  • Quick installation

  • Could be a cheaper solution for the short term

  • Does not require a foundation

Disadvantages:

  • Temporary solution – not suitable for long-term use

  • On hot summer days, asphalt can begin to deform, which affects the accuracy of measurements.

  • May require more frequent servicing due to base instability

Recommended: for temporary weighing or seasonal work.

🔹 Scales with factory-made reinforced concrete foundations

This is a heavier but more stable solution. Reinforced concrete blocks are installed on compacted soil, making them suitable for places where there is no suitable foundation – for example, in quarries, peat bogs or outdoor areas .

Advantages:

  • No need to pour foundations on site

  • Stability even in poor ground conditions

  • Reliable solution for longer use

Disadvantages:

  • Heavier construction requiring transportation equipment

  • Slightly higher installation costs than with steel ramps

Recommended: when a mobile, yet reliable and long-term solution is needed.
